These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User," "Officer," or "You") and Report Shield ("Company," "We," "Us," or "Our"), governing your access to and use of the Report Shield platform, website, and all associated services (collectively, the "Service") available at reportshield.app.
BY ACCESSING OR USING THE SERVICE, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ, UNDERSTOOD, AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THESE TERMS IN THEIR ENTIRETY. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THESE TERMS, YOU MUST IMMEDIATELY DISCONTINUE USE OF THE SERVICE.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Report Shield is an artificial intelligence-assisted writing review tool designed to assist law enforcement officers in reviewing and improving the clarity, grammar, objectivity, and structure of their written reports. All output generated by Report Shield constitutes suggestions only. Report Shield does not provide legal advice, does not make legal determinations, and does not replace the independent professional judgment of the officer or their supervising agency.
Report Shield is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform that uses artificial intelligence technology to assist law enforcement officers with the review and improvement of written police reports and narratives. The Service provides the following functions:
ALL OUTPUT FROM THE SERVICE IS ADVISORY IN NATURE ONLY. The Company makes no representation that any output, suggestion, charge recommendation, probable cause assessment, or rewritten narrative produced by the Service is legally accurate, complete, or appropriate for any specific case or jurisdiction.
The User acknowledges and agrees to the following without exception:
CJIS COMPLIANCE STATUS: Report Shield is currently seeking Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy compliance certification. The Service has not yet received formal CJIS certification as of the date of these Terms.
In light of the foregoing, the User agrees to the following data restrictions without exception:
The User acknowledges that compliance with their agency's data policies and applicable federal and state law regarding the handling of criminal justice information is solely the User's responsibility. The Company assumes no liability for the User's failure to comply with applicable data restrictions.
Nothing in the Service or its output constitutes legal advice. The Company is not a law firm and does not provide legal representation. The Service does not create an attorney-client relationship between the Company and any User. Any charge recommendations, statutory citations, or legal assessments generated by the Service are provided for informational reference only. Users should consult a licensed attorney for legal advice regarding specific cases, charges, or legal questions.
Access to the Service requires a paid subscription. Subscription fees are charged on a monthly recurring basis through our payment processor, Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize the Company to charge your payment method on a recurring monthly basis until you cancel your subscription.
The Service requires multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all user accounts. The User is responsible for maintaining the security of their account credentials and authentication devices. The User agrees to notify the Company immediately of any unauthorized access to their account. The Company shall not be liable for any loss or damage arising from the User's failure to maintain account security.
The User agrees not to use the Service for any of the following purposes:
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. THE COMPANY EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. THE COMPANY DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS. THE COMPANY DOES NOT WARRANT THE ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, OR RELIABILITY OF ANY OUTPUT GENERATED BY THE SERVICE.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE COMPANY SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE USER'S USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO DAMAGES ARISING FROM RELIANCE ON SERVICE OUTPUT IN THE PREPARATION OF OFFICIAL REPORTS, LEGAL PROCEEDINGS, OR PROSECUTORIAL DECISIONS. THE COMPANY'S TOTAL LIABILITY TO ANY USER FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING UNDER THESE TERMS SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT PAID BY THAT USER IN THE THREE (3) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.
The User agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Company and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of or in any way connected with: (a) the User's use of the Service; (b) the User's violation of these Terms; (c) the User's submission of data in violation of applicable law or agency policy; or (d) the User's reliance on Service output without independent verification.
The Service, including its software, design, trademarks, and content, is the exclusive property of the Company and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. The User is granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the Service solely for its intended purpose during the term of an active subscription. No rights are transferred to the User beyond those expressly stated herein.
The Company reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. Modified Terms will be posted at reportshield.app/terms.html with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Service following the posting of modified Terms constitutes acceptance of those modifications. Users are encouraged to review these Terms periodically.
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any dispute arising under these Terms shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Illinois, and the User consents to personal jurisdiction in such courts.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy available at reportshield.app/privacy.html, constitute the entire agreement between the User and the Company with respect to the Service and supersede all prior agreements, understandings, and representations.
